Spam:

You may have noticed the @@ symbols included in all the E-mails on this site. Please remove one of them before trying to send an E-mail.
The additional one is there to foil the spammers who use programs to collect E-mails from web pages to send you unwanted E-mails.

You should NEVER allow your E-mail to appear on any website (including Chat/Forums), as this is how spammers get your address.

Transport:

You definitely need a car in France as the clinic is located away from the town and the nearest Gite accommodation is about 7 miles. There are taxis available but it can become expensive using them on a daily basis. It is possible (but difficult) to hire a car with hand controls as there are only a few available. You would need to consult Hertz etc.

Trains: French trains have high steps to get in, and are entirely unsuitable for wheelchair users. Previous visitors have sworn not to go by train again.

Flying: The most convenient airport to arrive at is Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). The drive time is about two and a half hours. You can also use Lyon or Tours but the journey is about 3 hours and the roads are twisty in places.

Autoroute: www.mappy.com is a really excellent site.
Select your start point, input 58400 as the postcode and/or select La Charite as the destination. Check that you selected France from both the drop down lists, the GO.
You get an up-to-date guide to petrol and Toll costs, journey distance and times, plus an itinery that you can print out.

Car rental: It is easy to hire a car from the airport. All the big companies are there like Hertz, Avis, Europcar etc. Travel Agents can help you and some airlines include the car hire in their deals. When collecting the car they will need the driver's license plus their credit card for the deposit (they will only accept Credit Cards, and not the non-driving client's card).

Eurotunnel: This is a good option as it only takes 35 minutes from UK to Calais and you don't have to get out of the car. Prices vary according to season. If you plan to come regularly you can often take advantage of special offers i.e. booking 5 trips at once. There is also a points card system available which will enable you to get some trips free.

Ferry: Some people come by ferry as it is a lot cheaper. Just make sure they have a lift or access for wheelchairs first. You can go from Dover to Calais on a short crossing or overnight from Portsmouth, but the journey from Caen or Le Havre is quite long and slow and it is easy to get lost.

Directions:

Local directions for reaching the Clinic are available at the Laserponcture website (see link left).
See also the multimap.com link on the left, and tips for using it below.

Directions from Calais:

Take A26 towards Arras and Paris. There is one toll on this section and it costs 17.50 euros (or 14.90 on Sundays 2.30-4.30pm). The road joins A1 still to Paris.

When you go past Charles de Gaulle airport look out for A104 in Lyon direction and follow this all round the outside of Paris. At some stage it becomes N104. Be careful when you see "104" in two directions after coming round a bend under a bridge, do not take Reims direction too the right, but carry straight on on N104. You will see the Lyon road going off on A5 (do not take this turning), but continue on 104 till you see turn off for A6 towards Lyon/Mennecy/Fontainebleau and take that. You will see IKEA on your right as you join A6. There is a toll for 6.90 euros on this road. Take the A77 when it comes up sign posted Nevers. There is one more toll for 2.30 before you get to the Sancerre exit no.24.

Directions from CDG Airport:

When leaving Charles de Gaulle airport look out for A104 in Lyon direction and follow this all round the outside of Paris (be careful because it keeps branching right and if you miss a turn you will end up on the A1 going North!). At some stage it becomes N104. Be careful when you see "104" in two directions after coming round a bend under a bridge, do not take Reims direction to the right, but carry straight on on N104. You will see the Lyon road going off on A5 (do not take this), continue on 104 till you see turn off for A6 towards Lyon/Mennecy/Fontainebleau and take that. You will see IKEA on your right as you come onto A6. There is a toll for 6.90 euros on this road. Take the A77 when it comes up sign posted Nevers. There is one more toll for 2.30 before you get to the Sancerre exit no.24.

Multimap.com:

You can right-click the link in the panel on the left and select “Open in New window”.

In the top left corner, select France. You can search using the postcode, but note that French postcodes are generally not as precise an UK ones. You may need to use some ingenuity to get an accurate map of a gite’s location.
